Another MIA post

Where have I been now?! Well, Vegas was fabulous but we came back with a week before moving….

My current view at an angle.

Still so much to do and my craft room will be the last room unpacked. Hopefully by next weekend!

Missing in Action

Hello dear readers. I’ve been feeling guilty about not posting but the reason is simple, I haven’t actually created anything to share! I’ve done some colouring of images but that’s it since I was at Scrap Camp!

We found a place to move to and that’s happening next month so I will be busy packing and moving. Tomorrow I’m packing my crafty corner but I have been busy cutting cardstock and stamping images as I will go crazy if I don’t have some sort of creative outlet until my room is unpacked next month. Here’s an image of what I’ve done.

I’ve used two different cardstocks: Strathmore bristol for watercolouring and Gina K’s Artist’s Choice 110lb white for Faber-Castell polychromos pencil crayons.

I’ve got a busy few weeks as I need to pack up the house, purge before packing, and normal day-to-day stuff as well. I’m also gone for four days before we move on a work trip! Eek!

Thanks for stopping by and I’d love to hear what your favourite stamp set is to colour.

Spring is on its way, finally

It’s been a long winter for so many of us! I live in the interior of BC so it really hasn’t been near as bad as many places but it is has been worse than is typical.

I haven’t been creating too much and even on my crafting weekend, I was slow moving; I only completed five cards.

The following are two similar cards using different colour mediums. I ❤️ them both. This beautiful floral image is by Concord and 9th.

I’ve coloured the first image with Arteza Real Brush markers after stamping with my favourite black ink, Gina K’s Jet Black Amalgam of course. Exciting news on that front; there are five new amalgam ink colours, including light colours for no line colouring. See all the colours here. I’ve matted the focal image on black cardstock and then on a Flirty Flamingo base. A few gems by Lucy’s Cards and it’s mostly finished. The Lovely sentiment is from the coordinating dies. I’ve cut three, glued them together, coloured with silver Wink of Stella and then covered it with Glossy Accents. Such a pretty look.

This next card is the same layout with a Poppy Parade card base. This stamp set comes with images meant to loosely line up with the outline. I’ve stamped these with Gina K dye inks but I didn’t keep track of which colours.

Thanks for stopping by. Be sure to comment and let me know which card you like best.

Back after a short hiatus

It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve posted. The weeks I have my boys are busier than weeks I don’t and a couple trips to the ER last weekend didn’t help with crafty time. Everyone is good though and hopefully no more visits to the hospital anytime soon.

I read online about a product to use that is similar to embossing paste so I had to buy it myself and it’s fabulous. It’s Gloss Gel Medium from Michaels and it’s in the fine arts section. I mixed it with glitter and got great results. Here are a few that I did using stencils.

First I squeezed out some product on a plastic plate and then put some glitter on top. I mixed it with a palette knife and voila! Glitter gel at a fraction of what standard glitter pastes/gels cost. I used four different colours of glitter and three different stencils today: red, teal, iridescent, and navy. The polka dot stencil is by Ranger; it’s a Tim Holtz design. The other two are by Hero Arts, Waves and Bold Daisy. I only have plans for the waves background so I’ll be posting that soon.

I was also busy tonight with some simple cards. These two are very similar but each has their own feel.

This stamp is gorgeous! The details are incredible for a stamp, which just shows how amazing Unity’s stamps really are. This stamp is Botanical Background by Brutus Monroe. He was some amazing background stamps made by Unity. Check them out here. The card on the left uses black and Cherry Cobbler cardstock. The card is 4.25×5.5 with the stamped layer at 4×5.25. The Cherry Cobbler layer is right in between the two. The card on the left uses black and Pool Party as well as Pool Party embossing powder that is no longer available. I stamped the image on the left in Onyx Black Versafine ink then embossed with clear powder. Versafine is a must-have product for detail stamping. It is a pigment ink so it either needs to be embossed or left to dry so it doesn’t smudge. Pigment inks are slow drying, which makes them perfect for heat embossing.

I won’t get into too many details on these so this post won’t be too long.

What have you been creating this weekend?

This week’s cards

I’ve got a few cards to share today. It’s been a busy week so I’m happy it’s the weekend.

This first card was a custom order for a first birthday for her granddaughter.

As seems to be my go-to lately, I’ve used the adorable Cuddlebug Kitty by Unity Stamp Company. She’s been coloured with Zigs. I’ve mounted the kitty panel on Stampin’ Up’s Blushing Bride cardstock. This was then mounted on a piece of plaid from the Petite Plaid paper pack. I just love these 6×6 pads; they’re the perfect size for cards. My card base is made out of an 11×4.25 sheet of Lavender Fields cardstock, also by My Favorite Things. I added Pacific Point ribbon as a finishing touch. This was made by Stampin’ Up but has since been retired. Hopefully Miss Alice likes her kitty card.

This next card was for a co-worker who is moving out of town. She has two golden retrievers so this image was perfect.

This stamp is Full of Happy Hugs by Unity. I have switched it up a bit and used Stampin’ Blends to colour. These are alcohol markers made by Stampin’ Up. There are a bunch of different colours and two for each colour, a light and a dark. I was a Copic colourer many moons ago and these have been simpler to use. For cardstock I used Soft Suede, Merry Merlot, and Tranquil Tide, all by Stampin’ Up. The sentiment is from All Cats by Gerda Steiner Designs. These cats are adorable! I also used the paw print from Gina K DesignsFrisky Felines. I stamped this on the Soft Suede cardstock in Soft Suede ink. I also stamped the sentiment in this ink. Jill really like it!

One last photo but I won’t go into too many details.

I am in love with this owl! It’s Cuddlebug Owl and I just love this series by Tierra Jackson at Unity.

Thanks for stopping in and leave a comment to let me know you’ve been by.

Happy birthday to a co-worker

Today I’m sharing a card I made for a co-worker’s birthday. Happy Birthday Joy!

I’ve been a Unity Stamp kick and this lovely floral image is part of the August 2018 sentiment kit, There is No Reason. The sentiment kits from Unity are amazing. Usually there is one main focal image and multiple sentiments. This particular kit includes the floral image and twelve sentiments!

I coloured the image with Zig Clean Colour markers. I kept it simple and used one orange Scarlet Red, one red Red and one blue Shadow Mauve for around the flowers.

I cut the top panel to 3.75×5 and mounted it on a 4×5.25 piece of Basic Black Stampin Up cardstock. This was then mounted into an A2 card base of Stampin Up’s Poppy Parade. Love this colour and was glad they brought it back.

I’ve added some Lucy’s Cards Iridescent Gems for some interest.

The Celebrate by My Favorite Things was die cut from the same black cardstock three times and then stacked for more dimension. I used Connect Glue from Gina K Designs to adhere these together. I decided it needed some sparkle so I’ve layered clear Wink of Stella onto it. Once that dried, I added Glossy Accents by Ranger for shine. Here is a close-up where you can see the shimmer and shine.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy this card.

Welcome to the Unity Blog Hop!

Thanks for stopping in this morning. Today I’m sharing a favourite kit of mine from Unity Stamp Company — Adella Girl by Angie Blom.

I sponged the top panel with oxide inks, Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon, and Faded Jeans, I think. I then spritzed it with water that has Perfect Pearls in it. Gives the splotches a nice shimmer. I cut this out using the largest die from Wonky Stitched Rectangles by My Favourite Things. It was then mounted on black cardstock, likely Basic Black from Stampin’ Up, then onto a card base of Tranquil Teal from Gina K. Of course it needed a few gems! These are iridescent by Lucy’s Cards but they take on a bit of the background in the photo.

The sentiment is from Adella Girl as well and was stamped in black VersaFine ink and heat embossed with clear. I used my Tim Holtz stamp platform so my sentiment is nice and straight.

I stamped the main image in amalgam ink from Gina K on Strathmore Bristol cardstock. If you haven’t tried amalgam ink, rush out and buy some. It’s fabulous. You can use this ink on any cardstock and use alcohol markers, watercolour or even gambol and it will not run! Such a nice deep black too. The best part is Gina will be releasing FIVE new colours at Creativation. Adella Girl has been coloured using Zig Clean Colour Real Brush pens and a few different paintbrushes. I’ve bought them at a local art store and love them but they’re the store brand. I use round size 4 for most of my watercolouring. This was then fussy cut and added to the card with foam squares for some dimension.

Please stop by the blogs below to what fabulous projects they’ve cooked up. And don’t forget to comment on all blogs for a chance to win one of two prizes!
